Benefits For People With Disabilities

If you are unable to work due to a disability there are programs that exist through the federal government that may be able to provide assistance. Dean R. Wagner Co, LPA will help you in your pursuit of these benefits.

There are two programs both of which are administered by the Social Security Administration. The programs are Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income. In order to qualify for either of these programs you must have a physical or mental illness, or combination of conditions, that are expected to keep you from working for more than a year.

1. SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY INSURANCE ("SSD") The Social Security Disability program pays benefits to individuals who meet the definition of a disability and have worked long enough and have paid Social Security taxes.

2. SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME ("SSI") The Supplemental Security Income program is for individuals who have a disability and demonstrate financial need. You do not have to have worked to qualify for this program.
